The daughter of the late James and Mary Haggerty Curtin, she was born July 14, 1928 in Jersey City, New Jersey. Sister Margaret James entered the novitiate of the Dominican Sisters of Newburgh on September 7, 1947, made her First Profession June 25, 1949, and Final Profession August 22, 1952. A true Dominican in her love of study, Sr. Mary Esther also worked toward a degree in Applied Theology from Berkeley and took courses in Formation, Community Development, and Spiritual Direction at various institutes. In 2015, Sr. Michaeleen entered a ministry of prayer and presence at Mohun, where she had served for so long. Each of us comes with many stories about her and I would like to share some ofmy thoughts with you. Guiding people as they grew in their faith was important to her. In 2014, Sister McGuire moved to Sansbury Care Center where she began a ministry of prayer and presence. She was 91 years of age. Sr. Kathleen served in the transportation department at the Motherhouse, Sinsinawa, WI; as chaplain at St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis, and St. Vincent Hospital, Green Bay, WI; and as pastoral minister at St. Clement Parish, Sheboygan, WI, and St. Jerome Parish, Columbus, WI. She had a room at the convent where she kept clothing for students in need, and would personally make sandwiches for any child who came to school without lunch or lunch money.
